Louis Martin Custom Knives

Handmade Combat Knives

Quick Answer

A combat knife is a fixed-blade knife designed for military and law enforcement use — robust construction, reliable deployment, and blade geometry optimized for thrusting and utility tasks. Louis Martin combat knives are hand-forged for durability and dependability.

A combat knife must never fail. Louis Martin's combat blades are built to that standard — full-tang construction, proven steel, and ergonomics designed for performance under stress. From our workshop to the field, these knives represent our most demanding craftsmanship.

Characteristics & Construction

Full-Tang Fixed Blade

All combat knives are full-tang fixed blades — no folding mechanisms to fail, no pivot to wear. The blade and tang are one continuous piece of forged steel.

Blade Geometry

Double-edged and clip-point profiles for optimal thrusting capability. Blade lengths from 5–8 inches for balance between utility and carry practicality.

Care & Maintenance

  1. 1

    Clean after field exposure

Blood, mud, and salt water are corrosive. Clean and dry immediately after field exposure.

  2. 2

    Inspect the sheath

Test sheath retention before any mission. A knife that cannot be drawn or falls from the sheath is a liability.

Combat Knives — Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a good combat knife?
Reliability, robustness, and appropriate blade geometry. Full-tang fixed blades outperform folders in demanding situations. A 5–7 inch blade in D2 or high-carbon steel with a secure sheath system is the proven combat knife formula.
What blade steel is best for a combat knife?
D2 tool steel is our primary recommendation — semi-stainless (functional corrosion resistance), 60–62 HRC (excellent edge retention and toughness), and proven in hard-use applications. 1095 high-carbon is an excellent alternative for field repairability.
