Our Story

Every blade made at Louis Martin Custom Knives carries the weight of more than thirty years of American craftsmanship. What began in 1993 as the passionate pursuit of a single knife maker in East Northport, New York has grown into a three-generation tradition — father to son to grandchild — each inheriting the standards of the last and adding their own refinements to the craft.

We built our reputation slowly and deliberately, the way great things are built: by doing the work right, every time. By listening to hunters who've carried our blades through a lifetime of deer seasons. By learning from chefs who demand a Damascus kitchen knife that performs as beautifully as it looks. By rising to the standards of military and law enforcement professionals who need blades they can stake their safety on.

Our Craft

Damascus steel is our signature. The pattern-welding process — folding and forge-welding multiple alloys of high-carbon steel into a single billet — produces blades of 256 or more layers. Each finished Damascus blade from our workshop is unique: the flowing pattern of the steel, revealed through acid etching, is unrepeatable. No two are alike.

Beyond Damascus, our lineup spans more than 25 knife categories: hunting knives designed for the specific demands of whitetail, elk, and bear country; chef knives calibrated for the rigors of professional kitchens; tactical and survival blades built for hard use; folding knives refined for daily carry; and specialty pieces — karambits, kukris, swords, tomahawks — crafted with the same uncompromising attention to the steel that defines every Louis Martin piece.
